It was, of course, Noah's Ark themed and it was incredible to see all of the little touches that she and mum came up with.
The food was both yummy . . .
And entertaining . . . (this was MADE by my talented mother - no wonder my sis and I are crafty!)
My sis's soon to be sister in law made the sweet diaper cake - which had all kinds of things we might need for Daniel!
A couple of other cool touches were the advice slips where people could write me notes, seeing the baby pictures people brought and the "Awesome Aunt" shirt that my sister had made herself!
People were extremely generous with gifts and after everyone had eaten, we began opening presents.
This incredibly beautiful quilt was made by one of the little ladies - it's almost too pretty to use.
The gifts were a fun mix of incredibly practical (yay car seat!), sweet advice, tons of great clothes (fabulous knitted teeny sweater from Grandma) and outrageously funny cards (insert obligatory pee joke which is funnier than you'd expect in a room full of church ladies!). I'll do another post detailing specific gifts - probably tomorrow.
One of the most amazing gifts was created by my sister. She quills (unfamiliar? click here) and had made a Noah's Ark that was just perfect.
And then made some fantastic animals to go with it!
In anticipation of the shower, I'd gone looking for a hostess gift for my sister. I found the most perfect necklace online in Melissa's shop (click here to check her out). Melissa was wonderful to work with and sent the necklace right away so that I'd have it in time. Here's how it looked (if you can't see the words say AUNT like mom only cooler):
I wrapped it up in a teeny box and gave it to my sister at the end of the shower. She had given me a bunch of outfits that said "Awesome like Auntie" and "My Auntie Rocks" (will post tomorrow) so I was thrilled with how fitting the necklace was. She loved it and Daniel kicked while I was putting it on her neck!
The shower was so wonderful. It's really something to see that there are all these people who are as excited about your child as you are. Growing up in a church, you see the way people become part of the community and I can't wait for everyone to meet Daniel!
